Love Being A Dad! Had the Honor of Watching my Little Girl’s Christmas Program on Monday night!

So grateful tonight as I had the honor of watching my little princess, Becca, who is in second grade at Lifestyle Christian School sing her heart out tonight in praise on the stage as a part of the choir in the school’s Christmas program. She did great! She sang every word and sang it with all her heart! #lovebeingadad

Here she is on stage. Picture is a little grainy, but she is in the choir and she sang with everything she had straight from the heart!

Here is a video slideshow of the Christmas Program:

Back to blogging again!

After a long time, we are finally resurrecting our adoption blog! We are so very close to the day we receive the call from AWAA to go to Ethiopia and meet Joshua, our new little boy! We don’t yet know what he looks like or how old he is, but we are soooo ready to welcome him home! The other day, our social worker Beth Primm visited our home to update all of our homestudy paperwork. She is such a sweet lady and we are so thankful for her! Someone asked us if we had a adoption blog for Joshua yet, and it made us realize that we had dropped the ball! 🙂 So, we are going to try and keep this blog updated as we await the day we have longed for years…. referral day! Our journey began thinking we were returning to China… however it took a while for us to realize that God’s plan was for us to find our son in Africa. We serve such a wonderful Savior! He is so faithful and we are so thankful for His patience with us on this journey! Joshua, we love you son, and we cannot wait to welcome you home!

Just as an update… below is a photo of Becca taken back in April in a Texas Bluebonnet Field! Man how she has grown and how time has flown!

Daddy & Daughter Date Day

Becca and I had a wonderful time today! We fed ducks at the Duck Pond in Kingwood.

At Princess Becca’s request :), we then ate lunch at Chili’s. She had Mac and Cheese and I had the turkey sandwich and soup.

Then we went to Old MacDonald’s Farm in Humble. There we spent four hours and did everything we could do! We had a ball! We rode the train, fed all of the animals we could feed(goats, deer, sheep, ducks, emu, cows, pigeons, pigs, etc…) We played on the sand mountain, and Becca rode the horses twice(she loved that best!!!). One of the cutest things we saw was a baby lamb that had just been born! I had never seen a lamb that little. It was an amazing site to see that big mother ewe standing by her little one and protecting and nurturing it. You could tell she was so proud of her little baby.

I too was so proud of our Becca today! She shared the bread we brought with other kids who had nothing to feed the animals. She ate so good at Chili’s. She was so sweet and kind.

I thoroughly enjoyed going on this Daddy Daughter date with my sweet little girl today!

Happy Gotcha Day – 3 years! My How Life Flies By!

My how life flies by!!! It’s hard to believe that it has been three years since the day we got our Becca! This week has been another week of milestones in our lives! On Monday the 3rd, we toured Becca’s future preschool for the first time. She will attend the Humble First Baptist Children’s Development Center Preschool. Then on 3/5, our little baby passed from toddler-hood to girl-hood! She turned four! Again: my how life flies by!!!! Everytime I listen to the “Cinderella” song by Steven Curtis Chapman, I am ripped apart with all kinds of conflicting feelings! On the one hand: I am overjoyed over the little sweetheart that she is growing up to be and all that she is learning, and then on the other hand I weep inside (and sometimes outside too!) when I think of all of the time that has flown by so fast, and I find myself renewing a commitment to the Lord and to my little one to embrace the moments and squeeze every bit of joy out of each special moment that I am able to experience with our sweet little princess!

This morning when Becca woke up, we asked her, “What do you want for your Gotcha meal tonight as we celebrate your Gotcha Day?” I expected either chicken nuggets or spaghetti noodles or french fries, but out of her mouth came something I didn’t expect: “Cheeseburger!” she yelled with joy. OK we said! So tonight we celebrated Gotcha at Culver’s Butterburgers and Frozen Custard. After that, we said, “do you want to get a toy or a book as a Gotcha gift?” She said: “A BOOK!” So we took her to the Woodlands Mall and valet parked on this special occasion. We went into the Barnes and Noble there and she picked out two books: One Little Critter book called “Going to the Hospital”  and one little book called “Morris the Moose.” After that we asked, now what do ya want to do? “Play at the playground!” she said. So off we went, and she played and played at the Woodlands Mall Playground, her favorite indoor playground.

This was such a memorable night! It is truly in the ultimate analysis a great and wonderful joy to see my little girl growing up and realizing two important things the older and bigger she gets: “I am loved by my Daddy in Heaven, and I am loved by my Mommy and Daddy here on earth!”

May each Gotcha Day remind her how special and loved she really is!

Below are some pictures of our 4 year old Princess at her birthday party!! It was a Winnie the Pooh themed party.

Becca the Beautiful Sheep

Becca the Sheep!

Becca was one of the prettiest sheep I have ever seen in this year’s Church Christmas play! Daddy and Mommy were so proud as I am sure everyone will be when they see the picture below! She had her part down pat! She followed the play director’s directions completely! She is a smart kid!

Update re: the adoption of our second little blessing from God!

Just an update to let you know where we are at and how you can pray for us from here on out. On Monday 12/3 (Sarah’s Birthday 🙂 ), we had the last of our home study interviews by our Social Worker, Beth Primm. She came to our home and interviewed each of us separately, including little Becca.

Just a little cute note about a question she asked Becca before we started our separate interviews:

She asked Becca: “What do you like to do with your Mommy and Daddy?”

She replied: “Say I love you.”

That made Mommy and Daddy, needless to say, VERY PROUD!!!!!!!

Just so you can know what’s next:  from here, after filing our home study, we will authenticate every form for our dossier. What’s that mean you ask? Well, every document we compile goes through an international verification process.

First, after signing and notarizing each document, the notary must be certified as real and authentic by the US government and then by the Chinese government through their consulate.

After that, each document is officially ready to be sent to China as part of our dossier to China(DTC). We then have our dossier logged in in China, and receive a LID(log in date).  Then we wait however long it takes. Our main prayer at that point is for God’s perfect timing.

We will also be looking at and filing a special needs application at the same time as our regular application, so that if we find the child God has for us on the Special needs list, we can quickly proceed with the adoption of that child.

 Anyway, thanks for y’all’s prayers!!!!!!

Becca’s first time to perform at a “Dance Outreach” at a Nursing Home

Beccarecital

On Saturday, Becca bravely participated in a dance outreach and recital at a nursing home. We were so proud of her! This was her first time to perform in any way in front of people. Her 3-5 year olds dance class was the first to perform, and there were about 300-400 people there in my estimation. I am certain that in her eyes it probably seemed like there were about 3000-4000 there!

Well, the music started and they all pretty much froze with fear. It was a quick onslaught of of a mammoth case of stage fright. However, they all stayed up there and endured even though they forgot their routine. I was so proud of our little one! Even though she was scared, she did not cry, and she stood up there bravely and did her best. For that we were so proud! We took her immediately afterwards and went to celebrate at McDonald’s with a Happy Meal, and then we went and bought a toy at Wal-Mart as a reward!

By the way, the dance company where she takes ballet is called Profusion Arts! It is a Christian Dance Company! Check them out! If you live in the area, I would encourage you to enroll your children in any of these fun classes in all categories of dance and theatre for all ages!

You and Your Family Are Invited!

RSVP Today for our Next Adoption Fellowship Meeting – Saturday, Sept. 15th, from 4 to 6 PM – Theme: “Ways to Celebrate Your Child’s Heritage”

Whether you are still waiting to adopt or have adopted internationally already, all are encouraged to bring something from their child’s country of heritage to show to the group. It can be a book about their country, a food item, a toy, a CD of music, etc.. We will enjoy each other’s company and share ideas that God has given to each of us regarding ways to incorporate the celebration of our child’s ethnic culture into our family’s lives. If you cannot bring anything, come anyway. No one should feel pressured at all if they cannot bring an item with them.

As always there will be plenty of food, and we will finish our time together with prayer.

Regarding the food, we will provide all of the beverages, and ask that each family bring a snack food. Since we are celebrating heritage, feel free to bring a food from your child’s country of origin if you want to, but do not feel pressured if this would be too difficult to do. 1. planning medically for your adoption trip both for you and your family, including your new adopted little one.

2. dealing with the medical issues that are common in various regions of the world and in orphanages (example: vaccinations needed for you and for your new little one, common diseases, minor ailments orphans deal with, developmental issues, etc…)

3. understanding special needs adoption and what different diagnoses  require for treatment and the estimated costs involved.

4. learning more about the services that Texas Children’s Hospital has to offer to adoptive families before and after adoption.

Good 2007 to everyone!

Well, it’s about time I came out and posted something! We have some exciting news to share with you today! A week ago, we applied with AWAA to adopt again, and we got the news yesterday that our app was approved! We are officially on the journey to child number 2! We are looking to adopt a boy from China. We are going to very soon fill out a special needs adoption application with AWAA as our next step in the process.

A many of you know, we were praying about pursuing adoption from Vietnam, but God closed that door, and opened our eyes to the possibility of the Special Needs program in China.

Please pray for us as we take this step of faith, and seek God’s plan, and search for the little one God has for us.

God is full of sweet surprises, and we believe that this moment in our journey will be no exception to that rule! We believe firmly that God has a plan, and that plan is perfect for us! Before the foundation of the world, He knew we would have two little ones in our lives, and He knew we would adopt them, and He knew where they would be from!

That to me is both comforting and astoundingly awesome all at the same time! For those out there who are in a time of transition and change right now, know this… you can rest! God has it all figured out!

 Blessings until the next post!

Wow! We are loved! Something I learned from Becca Today!

Becca August 2006

See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for he allows us to be called his children, and we really are! But the people who belong to this world don’t know God, so they don’t understand that we are his children. Yes, dear friends, we are already God’s children, and we can’t even imagine what we will be like when Christ returns. But we do know that when he comes we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who believe this will keep themselves pure, just as Christ is pure.”

1 John 3:1-3 (NLT)

This morning my daily Bible reading fell on this chapter in 1 John, and these first three verses really jumped out at me. As I read these first three verses, I thought about our little Becca, and her pure approach to life that she has every day.

She wakes up every day knowing that Jesus and her Mommy and Daddy love her, and she approaches everything she does from that perspective with as the Bible says, “a childlike faith.” and with that a childlike joy! She loves every day and every breath of life that she experiences, and she approaches every moment with excitement!

I love that about my little girl! Watching her even this morning, made me pray: “Lord, help me to approach life this way!” So many times, as adults we rush here and there and everywhere, “Go to work, eat, sleep, go to work, eat sleep…” and if we’re not careful we can lose that childlike perpsective of excitement and joy in our daily Christian walk! This excitement is refreshed and renewed when that reality mentioned in verse one hits us in the face: “Wow! My Daddy in Heaven really loves me!”

My prayer today for myself and anyone who reads this is that God will refresh our perspective! May we see everything through the eyes of a child of the King of kings and Lord of Lords, excited about God’s love for us, excited about His faithfulness to us, looking forward to each day like a child that unwraps a gift on Christmas morning!

May people in the world who don’t know the joy of being a child of the King, see it in our lives, and want that same joy that they see in us!

May we also look forward with that same joy and anticipation for that wonderful morning when we will wake up and see the sky split and see Jesus return for us, His church!

God bless and have an awesome and exciting day!

One year ago today!

One year ago today, the day began like any other day. We both got in the car and went to work at the church. We both spent our morning doing the routine administrative activities in the church office. A friend came in that day and asked us how much longer did we have to wait for our referral? We said, we thought it was going to happen last month, and it disappointingly didn’t. We don’t know if it will happen this month with the holiday season finishing up and the Chinese New Year on the horizon.
We had both kind of reached the point where we were so down about having to keep waiting that we just didn’t want to get our hopes up that it could possibly happen this month.

That friend left, and then no sooner does she walk out the door when the phone rings! My mom says, “Brandon. it’s Allison from America World.” “AAAAAAHHHHHHHH! SCREEEEEAAAAAMMMMMM” This was it! We were officially going to be a Mommy and a Daddy! After an eight year wait, our baby was coming!

What a way to start out the new year!

The next day, DHL came to our door with a package, and we saw her picture for the first time!

“WOW! She’s beautiful! Thank you Lord! We’re so glad she’s ours!”

That was exactly one year ago! Boy does time fly, when your having fun being a daddy! 🙂

Below is a picture of our beautiful blessing from heaven, Becca Battle!

Our beautiful Becca!
